The Kuakata is a panoramic sea beach on the southernmost tip of Bangladesh, located in the Patuakhali district. It is about 320 km south of Dhaka, the capital, and about 70 km from the district headquarter.
Kuakata is locally known as 'Sagor Konnya' (Daughter of Sea). It offers a full view of both Sunrise & Sunset from it's same wide sandy beach. It stretches for about 30 km long and 6 km wide & the sandy beach has gentle slopes into the Bay-of-Bengal. Kuakata is also a sanctuary for migratory winter birds.On the eastern end of the beach, there is the Gongamati Reserved Forest, an evergreen mangrove forest Sundarbans and snippet of the original Kuakata. When the Rakhaines settled in the area in 1784, Kuakata was a part of the larger Sundarbans. Here Motsyo Polli is another place where tourists can visit & watch the lifestyle of the fisherman.For the lovely beach Kuakata, tourists also enjoy visiting of different attractive & historic places, such as Buddhist Temple (Statue of Goutam Buddah - 100 years old heritage), two wells of 200 years old heritage, Fatrar Chor(Part of Sundarbans), Jhau Bon, Seema Mandir, Mistripara Buddhist Temple, Echo Park, Shutki Polli, Lebur Chor, Lal Kakrar Chor & many more.
